Is HTML Dying?

XHTML was made to replace HTML but will this happen? Since the release of XHTML many Html uses have switched but that doesn’t mean html is dead. The battle between the two programming languages will last a decade, this debate is similar to “Whats better Mac Or Pc”. The answer can come down to personal choice more then fact. Since both Languages are good in different ways. Even though they are very similar, in fact XHTML is almost identical to Html they have a few features that separate them, one of the features is XHTML is a XML application and HTML is not. A lot of people are switching back to HTML for the simple reason “XHTML wasn’t all it was cracked up to be” I’ am not saying XHTML is better then Html or visa versa, I will tell you the facts and my opinion then you can decide yours, if you haven’t already.

If you don’t already know HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language, html was released in the late 90’s (1990) by Berners-Lee. He used “Standard Generalized Markup Language” (SGML) to create HTML.

XHTML stands for EXtensible HyperText Markup Language.

When XHTML was released in January 2000 by WS3, many people ditched html and transferred there websites to XHTML, because they thought XHTML was the “answer”, in some ways it was but since then many as I mentioned before have changed back to HTML.

Basically XHTML is a cleaner and stricter version of HTML, XHTML documents are both HyperText and XML documents. XHTML is said to be easier to manage then HTML.

I honestly think its going to take a while before HTML is completely “dead” , I haven’t touched XHTML much at the moment because I’ am happy with HTML but if I ever go into XHTML deeper and I like it a lot more then HTML then for sure I will change. I hope the two programming languages go down different paths so they are not so similar because it makes it harder to know if you should change or not.

My answer to the questions “Should I change from HTML to XHTML” (Or visa versa) is “Personal Choice” at the moment that’s what it comes down to.
